The amount of fluid it will take is a toss up, you will have to use the transmission dipstick to check the fluid level.

Pull out the dipstick, clean it off and read the stamped words on it. It will tell you the fluid grade is suppose to be Dexron 3 fluid and that you will need to check the level with the transmission in park with the engine running . There should be a cold and hot line for transmission temp.

At a minimum I'd say you will need 1-2 quarts of fluid. Start it up, wipe the dipstick off so it's clean, stick it back in and check where you are at. Add a quart if nothing shows up, let it sit and run so it can drain down the tube. Check the level again with a clean dipstick and keep doing it until you see fluid in the hash marks on the end of the dipstick. Once you have some there, hop in the truck and cycle through the gears with your foot on the brake. Allow the fluid to move around as you enter reverse, neutral and drive. Hop out and check the level again. If okay go for a little drive and check it again when you get back to triple check that the level is good.

Hard to say what amount of damage could have been done if any. Hopefully none in such a short amount of time since it lost some fluid.
