Yes they all switch to 80e's which require some sort of output adapter and transfer case input shaft. They all hate on 60e's, which the 4.3s do make some low rpm torque, but its all in what your looking to do with it imo in what will work. Not saying its never been done, but i dont recall ever reading about a awd th400 swap..
:edit: if this is going in a 2wd, go with the 400, probably end up cheaper and easier swap..

No one uses a Turbo 400 transmission in a SyTy. Lol, i own one and am very into these trucks and we don't use a 400. Yes ssome of the high Horsepower LS built trucks use a 4L80E trans. Even the guys with built V6s still use the 700r4.

It's a purist truck, anyone who owns one knows that keeping it AWD is the most important thing.

I read about one years back that had a turbo 400 in it. Also had the larger bow tie v6 block in it. It was a syclone. I thought I had seen a few others that had them. A turbo 400 could be used with a tcase also with the right mods. I am surprised you can get a 700r4 to live once the boost is turned up. IM wrong sometimes though, just ask my wife lol.

It's definitely a rwd conversation. SYTY'S are frowned upon if you convert them to rwd. LS and twin turbos seem to be cool with everyone. But most purist owners don't like.doing mad changes to them.
