Budget reg cab sportside s10 4.8l / nv3500 build

Just getting started on getting the swap parts needed for my truck, figured I’d post in here since there’s a wealth of knowledge in this forum from what I’ve seen. This build isn’t gonna be anything crazy just a fun daily driver, hoping to make around 330-350hp at the tire if I’m lucky.

build consist of:

-4.8l long block, got for free from a buddy, we pulled it complete out of a truck that he was scrapping.
-98+ s10 nv3500 v6 5 speed
-dirty dingo adjustable mounts
-shorty swap headers
-nnbs intake manifold with aftermarket throttle body that’s drive by cable
-just gonna go with a oe clutch kit and flywheel on the truck as it should hold what ever power the little 4.8l makes.
-some sort of high lift moderate duration cam shaft
-new knock sensors and any other that I find that need replaced.
-swap pan, looking at the fabricated 6l pan right now but still need to do a little more research on this.
-wiring harness I’ll be doing myself. I just started thinning the harness out, shouldn’t be too hard to clean it up and delete allot of the little things I’m not gonna use like secondary o2’s, ac stuff, evap purge and what not. If anyone has any wiring schematic for ls going into s10 please link them in here, most of the threads I’ve been finding have dead pictures which has been frustrating.

for cam choice there’s a few I’m interested in, I would really like to make power to 7k with the 4.8l and from the dyno shootouts and cam dynos I’ve seen it should be possibly. The truck won’t need a ton of low end power because it should be around 3100lbs when it’s done and the back end is real light.

What will have to be done to the NV3500 to get it to mate up to the 4.8?

My knowledge from cars is the v6 trans never mates to a v8 easily

I think it will bolt right up since the NV3500 came behind 4.8s in fullsize trucks. A member here (Zebra) is doing a NV4500 swap and might be willing to let his NV3500 Hurst shifter go.

Awesome build btw, looking forward to watching this one.

It bolts up and should work without any issues with the right clutch and flywheel setup. And thanks dan! I’ve wanted a ls swapped s10 since I first started driving. Hoping the little 4.8l doesn’t disappoint me. As long as it makes over 300 to the tire I’ll be pretty happy with it. All said and done I should have the motor in the truck and running for around 1500 bucks (I’m hoping) including doing the cam and valve springs.

Hummer H3 pan should be the OE pan you need, should you choose to go OE

The BMW 5 series rims look good on there. At least they look like 5 series anyway lol.

T-RevMotorsports 01-03-2020 04:39 PM

I think they are e90 3 series wheels but I’m not certain. They are 17x8 and supposed to be one of the lightest oem bmw wheels at 20lbs a piece without tires. Got them for pretty cheap with good blizzaks on them so I’m gonna run those till they are gone and probably go with a 255/55/17 in the back later. And thank you.

as far as the h3 alpha pan I’ll have to price one out. I am just looking for the cheapest pan setup that will work for my truck really.

Just picked up a flywheel from oriellys auto parts for $91 -$10 for a coupon I had. Still need to make sure I get the right clutch kit and throw out bearing as well as order flywheel bolts. I’m gonna replace the rear main seal as well while I have it all apart. From what I’ve found online in this thread the guy lists the part numbers for what I need. If anyone can confirm this that would be rad, I’d rather buy the parts local so if something doesn’t workout I can return it in store without paying return shipping as well as waiting. This thread was for a full size 95 Chevy truck I believe.

So I bolted the flywheel up to the crank and mounted the trans without any clutch kit on it. The input shaft sits right into the opening in the crank where the pilot bearing is supposed to go. Everything I’ve read online says the nv3500 for s10’s has a shorter input shaft but I think because this transmission is a 98-04 trans it has a longer input shaft so I should be able to just buy a clutch kit for a 02+ Silverado and everything should work just fine, not 100% sure on the Slave cylinder yet but I’m Pretty stoked about that.

I have a set of ARP flywheel bolts that won't clear my twin disc. If you think they're useful to you, I sell em to you for what you'd pay for OE bolts ~22 shipped
