I have a friend with a 06 colorado 4 cyl 5 speed manual trans and occasionally the antitheft light comes on and it wont start. So then he has to wait 5 or 10 minutes and it will start right up. I was wondering if anyone has had this prob and what was the fix. I was thinking possibly get the VATS turned off to fix the prob. He brought it to a mechanics shop and they acted like they were unsure and said up to $1200 if it was computer probs. Any ideas would help thanks.

Have you checked your battery Voltage??? Make sure the terminals are corrosion free. I Saw something similar happen on a newer Honda Civic. The corrosion can create enough resistance that the Antitheft does not get the correct voltage need. When the voltage isn't correct it won't send the signal and won't allow the vehical to start thus flashing the antitheft light. The voltage is very critical for that system and there is a very small window for error.
99% of the replacement battery's I have seen installed did not have the terminals cleaned prior to installation. All battery's need to have the mateing post cleaned as well as the cable end of the connection cleaned. After a good connection has been established a sealer or some type of anti-corrosion should be applied as preventative mantinace. Essenstial every time you change the Oil you should inspect the terminals for corrosion. Most mechanics or oil change places never bother to look or say anything.
You can by a terminal cleaning brush for less then $10 They have a post type and the type for the bolt on side terminal cables for the 75,78,and 86 series batteries. In a pinch you can use a small wire bristle brush for few dollars. Just make sure the mateing surface is shinney, not dull.
Hope this helps !!!
