Default who at 150,000 whould replace lifter trays

Okay i got 150,000 on my scsb daily driver and im going to be going to putting a tr220 in and i have the cam and springs and pushrods, but when i called and ordered the springs the guy was trying to sell me lifters and lifter trays.

So i was wonderin who has put a cam in at 150,000 and didnt replace the lifters and trays?

The truck has great oil pressure (60 pounds at idle) so i wasnt even going to replace the oil pump and timin chain.

Also the truck has some piston slap when u start it up for about a min. so.........

Im just tryin to get some of yalls input on if i should

A. Put the cam in with hardened pushrods and springs

B. Put the cam in with hardened pushrods and springs oil pump new
timimg chain set

C. Put the cam in with every thing in B. with new lifters and lifter trays

D. Build a 6.0 because of the piston slap

Thanks guys
-Nate

It's the salesperson's job to sell you things. Save your money by not buying the lifter trays and instead get the heavy duty timing chain for $45.33 shipped. That's the only thing I notice stretched out on 100k+ mile motors.

So, B...even though the oil pump is fine.

you have to pull the heads if you do the lifters, the lifter trays have no moving parts to worry about replacing.

i would say A and and a new timing chain. thats what i did to mine. it had 153k on when i did it. i couldnt tell any wear on the chain but the new setup will spin harder so it would be a good idea to do it.

Do the cam and springs and screw the lifters and trays. Even if you are changing lifters how do you know when it's time to change out the trays? I put the lifters in the trays when the are oil soaked and turn the trays upside down. If the lifters fall out I change the trays. If they stay in I keep the trays. Can it get any more simple than that? The trays are like $5 each so don't let the low price influence your decision. Besides, as has been mentioned you have to pull the heads and the one big advantage to the LS series is that you can swap a cam WITHOUT pulling the heads or intake. Can you name another cam in block that can say that?
