what pushrod length?
well i think ive got everything figured out, but i want to know for sure if ive figured everything right. my heads are milled .045, but im going with a .074 head gasket which is .023 thicker than stock, so that puts me at .022 shorter than stock. the base circle on my cam is .006 smaller than stock, so that puts me at .028 shorter than stock. so that means i need a 7.372 push rod right? if i did this wrong someone please chime in. if not please let me know.

anyone have any input?

Be careful with the addition and subtraction. Doesn't always add up. Go buy a Comp push rod length checker; they are 15 bucks or so. Put it in the pushrod hole. Torque the rocker down to 22 ftlbs and adjust the pushrod checker until it touches the back of the rocker. Be sure the pushrod checker is on the base circle of the cam before you do so. Take it out, measure the length and add your preload.
Look here for additional information Also, why are you using a .074'' gasket? Go thinner not thicker than stock if you aren't using the stock gaskets. |
im going with the thicker gasket to get my compression back down cuz i had the heads milled. going fi.

can you even get pushrods that exact? dont they have to be like 7.35 or 7.4? or can they be 7.375 or something...i think the addition and subtraction thing is good enough if you dont have the time to pull the heads, measure and then wait for them to be shipped

Stock... 7.4? - .030'' (milled heads) =7.37'' pushrod - .011'' (.043'' gasket) =7.359'' pushrod + .123'' (1.43'' base circle) = 7.482'' pusrhod So, what do I go with since the sizes are spaced by .05''. A 7.5''? Well, I tried this and the motor wouldn't even turn over. LOL PLEASE!!! Do not do adding/subtracting for your push rod length. I am currently using a 7.425'' push rod length that I ran across from Thunder Racing. |
i stand corrected i was :owned:
