vortec heads

I have read alot of threads in the past few days, but i still have a few questons. If i were to rebuild a 350 for my 86 GMC k1500 using vortec heads what would be a good cam shaft to run in it without a real hard lope...keep in mind this is going to be a daily driver. I know i will need new valve covers, self aligning rocker arms, intake, and gaskets. Am i missing anything else? Any suggestions?

Hey bud , first off y areu running vortecs no disrespect just need to know your goals cause vortecs are great but if u have to convert to use them it aint worth it tell us some more engine specs and goals
Like tranny? Gears? Carb? Max rpm? : ) y no lope?

They make adapter brackets to run 4 bolt square style (old) valve covers too
And pushrod guideplates

I read that they were a good swap for cheap power. It's got 700r4 tranny. I just want a strong daily driver with plenty of power and responsiveness. Right now it has a quadrajet but I have a 670cfm holley laying around I was planing on using. I'm not sure about max RPM and ill have to check my axle for the gear ratio. I don't care if its got lope I just don't need a huge cam.

Yeah u wont want a huge cam for a daily driver
Id look at competition products or even summit they both sell package deals
Cam
Lifters
Springs
Pushrods
Id say somewhere around 200-215 duration and 110-112 lsa
Itll lope alittle but very torquey
Especially cause n im guessing u dont have high a stall converter

*****be sure to varify that its a hyd roller from factory meaning u will need to accomadate for that as in guided lifters with the spyder bracket

It's a stock converter. Thanks for the info, ill check it out.

First, I'd rebuild a roller, 1 piece rear main seal block (vortec). Then I'd run a cam with a grind similar to a lt4 cam. With the vortecs, it should run pretty well. Just remember the vortecs will limit what intake you can run.

LT4 production cam, NOT the LT4 HOT CAM if you wish to keep the factory converter.

I wouldn't run a factory converter with either.

sorry if my post came off as negative. Didn't mean to sound that way, just wanted to clarify because most guys with Vortecs run the LT4 Prod. cam.
