Thoughts on Piston C Clips
 

Cleaned up my pistons and re-gapped the rings on my lq4, and after reinstalling the wrist pin and then the C Clip retainer, thought "hmmmm, this a good idea to reuse these?" No manual I have come across either confirms or denies reusing the C Clips, but my worry is whether they should be reused? Personally would hate to lose one if the retainer itself lost some of its tension because of removal! Was searching around the Internet and could not find much material on this. My guess is most people just get the new clips when they buy a new set of pistons! Am I over thinking this? :hmmm:

Per GM you are supposed to replace them...I'll see if I can find it in Service Info again...

Anyone have part #. Can't find one and I don't trust going to a hardware store... Lol

They are not available from GM. I used clips from sealed power, don't remember part number.

I will check with sealed power, looks like Mahle sells them as well...!

Have checked on the retainer clips from both Mahle and Sealed Power and the dimensions are off just enough from my stock retainer to have me worried enough not to buy them. Anyone else with a little input? I would rather re-use my stockers then a set that was probably made for a different wrist pin dimension. :confused:

I've put 18k miles on mine since april, no problems.

Came up with part number 12569638 engine piston pin retainer.

But there not cheap... like $15.13 each list price. It list Federal Mogul as the piston supplier so maybe you can contact them and see what they sell.

You can probably get them cheaper by going direct to Federal Mogul.

Remember GM has to mark them up to make a profit.

WOW! For a whole set that would be one thing, but for one C clip that's insane! Well at least they list the exact dimensions for reference, and thanks for that part # It was eluding me!
