Are stock lifters ok for my build?

I'm building a new lq9 engibd, just curious if I would be okay using new stock lifters or do I need to buy ls7 lifters or what. And if it's recommended that I go with ls7 lifters, do I have to do anything special for them to work or do they fit like normal lifters? Thanks fellas

Stock lifters will work just fine..

Swerve7rpm2000 03-01-2011 07:41 PM

dry_kill 03-01-2011 08:18 PM

Good news

Stock will work, but for as cheap as LS7s are, theyd make me sleep better at night lol

your stock lifters will work fine like mentioned, mine seen 7k-7800 rpm limits with no issues. ls7s are great for the price

Pardon my ignorance but what makes LS7 lifters better?

i would like to know this too.. They look identical, i swear i bought them just for the fact that they said ls7

if not mistaken its in the cup, also IIRC you'll need 7.35 rods, not foresure though..

MPFD 03-01-2011 09:23 PM

oh... thats the length i have now, maybe I need em too ;)

I'm using LS6 lifters in my build. I trust them.

Not sure what year that there was a change, but I know that the earlier lifters (like my year at least) are not as strong, I believe that newer ones have more meat around the roller, and the LS7 lifter is the new factory replacement.

FYI all factory replacement lifters are the "LS7" lifters now. All the new motors I believe 07 and on that arent running the DOD, AFM, VVT crap are runing the LS7 lifters. They do just fine and there is no reason(IMO) to pay 200 for the comp replacements when the LS7s run 140 and do great even in fairly high revving, heavy valve'd, and stiff sprung combos. Texas Speed has them for 130ish I believe, put them on your shopping list unless youve got a set of the enclosed roller lifters that you know are in good shape.

but could i still use a 7.40 pushrod on them?

also would i be fine using new stock head bolts or do i need to buy a set of ARP?

guero68 03-02-2011 06:50 AM

I used 7.4 rods on my build using the LS7 lifters on XER lobes....havent had a problem...but maybe some might chime in on the length of rods...

I've seen different answers on what length PR to use. Some say 7.4's and some say other sizes. I already bought PRs before I decided to get lifters so I am just going to check the length and if 7.4's do not work I will sell them for new ones.

I would go ahead and buy ARP head bolts if you are not going high boost or anything. I did some shopping the other day and I found ARP head bolts for around 99. I believe stock TTY bolts are 60 and you can only use them once, Arps can be used over and over. Just get the correct part # and google it and shop around. Don't forget different year blocks have different head bolts so buy the right ones the first time. I always see guys selling them because they bought the wrong length! ;)

Could a steep ramp possibly touch the outside edge?

No...
