Sludge
So i took the valve covers off the 6.0 tonight and noticed that there is sludge buildup on the inside of the cover, and the valve springs. I was going to just put oil in it, and run it, then change it soon to try to get it out, but im not sure if that will clean it all out. What is the best, safest thing i can put in this thing to help remove all of this caked oil?

Seafoam

How bad is it? You're more than likely better off just leaving it alone.

Shell rotella-T has a lot of detergent in it, you could run that for a few miles then dump it and see what it looks like.

I had the same problem on the 5.3 i bought....i dont know how bad yours is but i decided to take a deeper look into mine...glad i did...it was terrible
Post some pics up if u can |
Well it was just pulled. So im pretty sure there's nothing wrong internally. It's an 07 w/ less than 5k miles, which i wouldn't think would have this much sludge anyways. The plugs and valves look good, i don't want to pull the head unless i have to. Where would i put the seafoam in it in order for it to clean that out? All i had ever heard of was in the tank or vacuum lines.?

Means that someone ran the sh*t out of it.
The BG chemical that we used at my dealership for engine flushes is basically Pinesol, the way we do it is add about a quart to the engine oil and run it at fast idle for about twenty minutes, then drain and change oil filter. If its really bad you can add it to the engine then go drive it for about twenty miles then change the oil, you can do this two or three times and it really works. just my two cents. I've done it to my truck and it got rid of a small tapping noise that I had at idle, |
