Anyone know if the LQ4 (intake) valves are thinner than the other LSx valves? I just got my heads cleaned and a 3 angle valve job but the tech said the intake valves are very thin (paper thin) and recommended that I run stainless steel or something stronger than the factory valves or otherwise risk the valves tuliping and destroy the motor.

What specifically was thin??? The Valves in the 317 are the same Solid valves used in other heads on the LS platform. With a 2.00 diameter.

the valves, not the stem was what he was describing that was thin.

Did he physically show you the issue??? They seem to work for what they are. but in terms of performance yes you can get a better valve. Unless the base was really bad were it sits on the intake seat, I don't see why he would need to remove very much material to do a valve job.

If they were bad or not straight to begin with then I could see them getting dangerously thin.

the tapered end area. im going t pick them up today and see how they turned out. again he cleaned the heads and did a 3 angle valve job. pics will follow.

how much was removed off the cylinder ports on the head? like mentioned a 3 angle valve job. he did not touch the valves but mentioned when he pulled them the tapered end where mating surface contacts the piston was thinner than the usual he works on other motors. i didnt stop by the shop but my other buddies said it shouldnt be a problem as LSx valves are mainly the same?
