No oil pressure on startup
Alright well yesterday I may have over rev'd my truck a little bit while racing yesterday. I shut it off pretty soon after the run and when I tried the start it back up (within 5 minutes of shut off) the low oil pressure light came on and it wasn't registering any oil pressure so I immediately shut the truck off. I just kept restarting the truck and eventually oil pressure came back. It did the same thing this morning when I tried starting my truck. It took a few times of startup to get oil pressure up and normal. Is my oil pump going out or what? My truck has plenty of oil and is not burning/leaking/pouring oil.
Seems like my engine is losing it's "prime" Like it has to run a bit to build pressure back up. |
Hmm... I let me truck sit for about an hour and then it started fine with oil pressure. Maybe it's my guage/sensor?

all i can say is get a mechanical gauge from advance or autozone. hook it up off your oil block. thats the only way you can get a accurate reading
|
Did you fix it? My buddys is doing the same thing.
|
How high did you spin it.
|
If it really is a pressure problem, you will hear loud tapping from the lifters. Kill it immediately.
My oil pump failed (bypass stuck) a while back, and the sound is what made me look down at my gauge showing 0 psi  The trucks around your year model are known for bad stepper motors in the gauges, so check that too. Maybe turn the key forward without starting and tap on the plastic and see if the needle moves. |
