LS9 cam in a 4.8, what to expect?

a friend of mine wants a cheap good DD cam for hes NA 4.8
will this be a good choice?
its a reg cab NNBS so it got the big heads /intake/ and TB

I would not advize this cam on a na 4.8, looking at the numbers I think it would be slower anywere under 5000 rpm, the lsa is the big killer. I think an ls2 cam would be a better choice.

i want somthing bigger than the 212/218 ...somthing like 40hp 40tq

my cam pulls good from about 2500- shift point which is 6700. its a 215/222 on a 113 with .602/.604

There's a guy on theturboforums.com that uses ls9 cams in turbo 4.8's. Not sure if he has ever tried them N/A though. He's on ls1tech too and his username is denmah.

Thats asking for plenty out of cheap replacement cam in a 4.8, I have a 212-212 562lift 112lsa in mine but its turbo, The power comes in at 3000 and pulls hard to 6500 were I shift it and im sure it would pull to 7200ish. Remeber at the same rpm the 4.8s piston is moving slower then any other ls motor, you put more dur in the cam you may move more air but your not letting it build any compression (no torque). What you want is less dur more lift tight lsa. Id go for something around 215 dur 580 lift and a 110-111 lsa unless you plan on running more then a 4000 stall.

how about a somthing in the 215 218 and 600 lift with 112-114

That sounds pretty close to me, gearing a stall will make a big difference on what you can get away with, this cam should work good with a 3000-3600 stall, you could bump it up to 218-222 if you had a 4000 stall.

cant afford a stall

Is it a 65e or 6l80? Even with a stock stall I think these cam numbers will work fine I dont think id go any smaller, the 4.8s dont make a hole lot of power so a cheaper used stall would work fine, im sure hes going to want one sooner or later.
