Default L92/l9h/ly6

I'm looking at buying a complete engine and trans combo to put in a 1971 C10 pickup. I do not want to do crazy mods to the motor at this time. Maybe a cam and some springs etc...

Will all of the mods for the L92 work with the L9H? I dont mind keeping the VVT at this time.

LS3 would be nice but cost way more to pickup.

Is the L9h or the L92 or even the LY6 more sought after for modding?

Thank you

L9H is the flex fuel version of the L92 so you will get bigger injectors and they LY6 is 364ci so you lose 12ci....so to sum up L9H>L92>LY6 but basically your best bet is to get the one you can get the best deal on

Thanks for reply!

The current combo I'm looking at purchasing came in a 2012 Silverado and has a 2WD 6l80E behind it.

Which cam would you guys recommend for some additional street-able horsepower? Would you also do springs and some better valves?

Thanks again

It will almost definitely be an L9H then...as far as a cam it all depends on what your goals are, whether you want to keep vvt/or delete, and what size converter you will be running...

If i were you I would call one of the sponsors and let them recommend a cam...or check out

I would make sure the 6L80e is going to fit, an older truck should probably have room and might just be a problem for older cars. Something to look into.

You will want new springs and pushrods for any aftermarket cam. What do you want out of the cam, lots of low-mid or mid-high? Do you plan on getting a converter or want to stick with stock?

Trans will fit in the truck, just have to switch over to a 4x4 trans hump, no big deal.

I'm sure hooking up will be an issue with the back end being so light. So maybe a mid-high cam.

I dont mind keeping the VVT, it appears some guys are making good power with them. I wont be racing the truck, just want nice street-able power. Around 500 HP would be nice.
