Post K&N v.s. Spectre Cold Air Intake

K&N 57-3021-1: Cold Air Intake System | JEGS
K&N

Spectre 9900: Air Intake Kit 1999-2007 GM Truck V8 | JEGS
Spectre

I was wondering if anyone had either the K&N or Spectre cold air intake on their trucks and how they had felt about them. Would the Spectre be as good as the K&N? Would it make a difference if I were to put a K&N filter on the Spectre intake? Just wondering general information. Thanks!

Ive had the K&N with plastic tube and the Spectre and didnt notice a power difference except the metal Spectre sounded a little louder. I have modified the plastic K&N air intake tube to fit my stock air filter box as I've seen it maintains better air intake temps at idle. I just modified it by cutting a hole in front near the headlight. It's good enough to feed air to the 6.0

Thanks, I've been debating which to buy for a little while now. I'd be interested in that air box modification in the future if I do end up going with the K&N although at the moment I am leaning towards the Spectre.

I've got a Spectre tube with off brand dry air filter element, it works ok, I've wrapped my tube with heat wrap to keep the heat soak down but once everything gets hot, it makes no difference. It works for a budget daily driver.

IMHO ive seen chart comparisons from a tuner that tested a bunch of air intakes and the airaid jr was the best. and it might be same price as the spectre, its just the plastic tube and high flow drop in filter for stock air box. thats what i would do.

I have a Green Filter USA - Official Site kit in my NNBS. Just a tube and drop in filter. Very pleased with that setup.

The Metal Tube on the Specter will heat soak.

The Airaid Jr. Maintains the factory Airbox but replaces the tube. The Synthetic dry filter flows more air than an oiled style filter.

I run an Airaid JR. on my truck.

I believe it is a 201-712

Keep your eye on eBay. I found a Volant system for $127 shipped from an LKQ on eBay.
