how come a 2005-2006 5.3 engine wont fit my 02 model truck.
 

i found a 06 model 5.3 engine in a salvage yard but the guy at the counter says it wont fit my 02 silverado he says that the hollander number is different. he wants $600 bucks for a 06 model engine with 21k miles on it and all of his other engines are 80-100k mile range. he says that going by hollander interchange that my truck takes a 200-2004 model year to fit it. has any body else put the late model engine in there older truck? THANKS!! :D

It will fit just fine, just swap intake manifolds and you'll be good to go.


The differences are fuel return systems, cable vs elec thottle body, and EGR.

The oil pressure switch might also be different, but you'll have to see. Mine was.

:stupid: call the guys and tell him you have a 06 truck. then swap your needed parts over.

The guy behind the counter is an idiot. The only difference is the drive by wire throttle body but that can be changed by loosening a few bolts and swapping your current tb on. An '06 won't have EGR either but that's no big deal anyway.

Come to think of it; you'd have to swap fuel rails too since the fuel return systems are different.

Will there need to be a harness change?

No, the harness will be fine if he swaps his old intake on to the new motor.

All of this is assuming he has an old motor to swap parts with. If this is a V6 to V8 swap, or starting with nothing type of situation, it's a whole nother ball game.
