FI/ cam

I'm looking to go to forced induction as well as upgrade to a bigger cam however I'm not sure which to go with first.

I suppose it will come down to what kind of prices I can find for what kinds of performance gains each will offer. So if anyone is considering selling turbos/superchargers by themselves or even as a whole kit, or if anyone is selling a cam and other necessary engine internals let me know.

Thanks!
Alex

Figure out if you want to go with a turbo/ Procharger/ or other supercharger. Each one will want a different cam. I would get the F/I first

I knew that its better to choose a cam designed for forced induction but I was unaware that every form of fi required specifically designed cams.

Another thing on my mind is whether or not I should get a cam that utilizes vvt or a setup that eliminates it.

Its my understanding that the former will provide more torque with a broader range of power where as the latter will provide more HP however it is more "peakier".
If that's incorrect, let me know, however even if it is correct I don't know which id prefer because I haven't had the luxury of experiencing either.

Any one with some personal experience care to jump in?

Thanks
Alex

turbos have alot of exhaust back pressure. superchargers need a free flowing exhaust.
So turbo cams have single duration say 220/220 vs a supercharger where you will see something like a 218/228 since its getting air ramed down its throat and needs more exh duration for it to get out of the engine.

We offer options for both setups with the vvt or without, personally I would keep the vvt setup, as you are able to control more valve events and potentially make more power. Feel free to give us a call, we can certainly help you out in spec'ing a camshaft for your application.

IMHO, a VVT cam is a "compromise" cam. No thanks.

Beyond that, get boost first, then go from there.

Jake, thanks for the help and lowrider, can you elaborate?

Go boost first, then decide on a cam. If you do it the other way around, you run the risk of getting a cam not ideal for your setup

D: Tis so expensive.

And yes I know "gotta pay to play" or whatever. Id just really like to get some more power but the only ways I'm seeing to gain anything really noticeable is either a cam or turbo/supercharger and they're both gonna cost me but I think I could get the former for under a thousand where as the latter is going to be at least 4-5 times that.

Suppose I should turn my studying entirely to forced induction and attempt to find deals.

Now that I got my bitching outta the way.

Tx Tahoe, how has that Radix been treating you? Like it?
