Engine pre-lube. aka Accusump
I found this while over at tech, looks like a great idea for start-up oil pressure......
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ing/24_006.jpg Does anyone here have one of these units? Does any of our sponsors carry accusump? A little info about accusump... On initial start-up when the valve on the oil side is opened the pressurized oil is released into the engine and therefore pre-lubricating the engine prior to start-up. The Accusump holds whatever oil pressure the engine has at the time that it is shut off. After the engine is started and the oil pump has taken over, oil is pumped back into the Accusump. This moves the piston back and pressurizes the Accusump until it equalizes with engine's oil pressure. While driving, if the engine's oil pressure is interrupted for any reason, the Accusump releases its oil reserve again, keeping the engine lubricated until the engine's oil pressure comes back to normal. This release of oil could last from 15 to 60 seconds, depending on the size and speed of the engine. In racing or hard driving conditions, the Accusump will automatically fill and discharge when needed as you corner, accelerate and brake. |
Seems like a neat idea

No one here has seen or used one of these? I may be the first then...

I have one on my Race car... Its a Blown 526 Aries Aluminum block and such.. wanted to do anything and everything I could to help the motor live.. but It didnt work like you might think.... It will not Pre lube an Engine 100% .. I am not even sure it will 40% ... Of course I wanted to open it and oil pressure guage to at least twitch... nada... pulled the valve covers once to inspect .. and nada... It did help at the end of the track on a 180mph shut down ... at times the oil pressure light would come on (under 30psi) ... Fixed all that ... but didnt workout for me as a pre lube... AND... we have the biggest one made 3 quart model?...

Does it use a manual valve to release the oil?
|
It has a electric valve that is opens when the key is turned on. I think.
|
Does it also tie in to the oil pressure sender to open once the vehicle is running, like on the track?
|
It is plumed in the oil system I think of it a as a accumulate of a hydraulic system. It's charged by the oil pump and if/when oil pressure drops, it supplies oil until oil until the oil pressure comes back up..
