easy 5.3L mods
 

hello, im new to the forums but loving em already
I just bought a 01 chevy silverado 4x4 with the almighty 5.3 vortec.
Its not a 6.0 but still has some balls, I do believe it is very undertuned(like most factory motors). I believe its time I release what It can dish out. How would I be able to help bring out some power without spending too much money. Btw is it worth buying the cold air intake? and new muffler is a must, cant be wuppin up on them little hondas without showing em what a v8 sounds like. one more question, a buddy told me that most ls1 and ls6 internals can fit in a 5.3. what parts are they and does it include the intake. he has an intake laying around and said he will give it to me. im not to sure if it will fit or worth swapping out.

For starters go get your self an exhuast maker sure it is mandrel bent, then go and get a air raid cold air intake. Then go and get it dyno tuned. After all that you will have a decent setup. If that is not enough throw a cam and stall in it or go with a small shot of no2.

And yes the ls6 intake manifold will bolt up but the accesories won't. You have to modify the brackets to fit. (. Someone correct me here) but from a performance aspect you won't gain much on a stock engine. You will actually lose low end torque but gain hp on the top. IMHO stick with the stock truck intake. And remember the trans and rear end also need work so save cash for when those decide to pop. And another thing the search button would have gotten you far more anwsers bud. Also try reading the header for the section your posting in. things need to stay somewhat organized. Easy mods aren't going to be Internal Engine Modifications.

Anything in the Bolt On list is good and well explained. Do your bolt ons and then tune for them. That's the Easiest way to get power.

tip: for a quick way to learn things. use the New Posts button listed in the top center header. It will show you the most recently discussed threads. Very good way to stay up to date on things going on and to be exposed to all kinds of subjects even if your not ready to do that yet.

CAI is a waste of $200-300 bucks IMO - just put a better filter on the stock set up. The best mod for $ is the Magnacharger. Buy a used one for $3000-4000 complete and its all ull need. Otherwise get a tune (Nelson, Wheatly), cat back, headers, cam, heads in that order.

The easiest way is NAWZ

It sounds like you want more power easier but not with a headache. OK best bang for the buck.

*INTAKE- buy a new AEM dryflow filter(like $50) get some tubing and clamps @lowes or intakehoses.com. $320 for intake is waste of money, spend on tune instead

*EXHAUST- Buy a muffler you like and have shop weld in or if you want to
spend the money, go cat back.

*TUNE!!!- This will be the best thing you will buy. DON"T get a handheld!
Every truck is different and has different needs. Handhelds and
chips just have an idea of what your average truck would need.
A good dyno tune will be your best investment.

If you want to smash Stangs and WRX's, tell us for you will need a diff plan.
