Hey Guys,

What do you all think of this cam in a 2005 Sierra Denali (LQ9) with CAI, LT, and a cat back? The truck is otherwise stock right now, but I'm not opposed to a converter. I would like to keep it fairly tight, lower than 3000 (possibly a TB converter?)

The specs are:
Operating Range: 1300-6300 RPM
Duration Advertised: 269° Intake / 273° Exhaust
Duration @ .050'': 216° Intake / 220° Exhaust
Valve Lift : .525'' Intake / .532'' Exhaust
Lobe Separation Angle: 114°

I don't want to go too wild this a cam, but I would like to be a little noticable at idle. I would like to keep my shift points close to 6000 RPM as wll since it is a daily driver and I need it to last. As in most cases, I would also like to keep the bottom end power decent as well. This is a truck, and from time to time I use it like one!

What can I expect with this as far as idle quality, where it will make good power, and how difficult it would be for me to pass inspections? How about Gas Mileage? I seem to be doing pretty well with it right now (over 15 MPG in the last 2500 miles of mixed driving), and I would hate to see it drop too much.

P.S. Don't be too harsh on me guys, I tried a search and I didn't come up with much. If someone can point me in the right direction with a link to other threads that will work too!:thumb:

by your description of what you want, it sounds perfect to me and adding a tb stall and tranny cooler would it make it even better....good luck, Rob.

I was running the Xr265 and just jumped to the Xr275. I think your choice will be very nice. Idle will have a little lope, but not much. If you want lope go down on LSA. I would reccommend a good tune and your mileage should be fine. Passing smog will be close, but with a good tune i have heard it can be done. If you want more low end power and not have to worry about a converter or smog, drop down to the xr265. I noticed quite a drop in low end grunt jumping from xr265 to xr275, but she screams at 4000-6500rpm.

Yea I figured with the 6.0 it would need a little more cam than the XR265. I thought the LQ9 with a XR269 might perform similar to a 5.3 with the XR265 (as fas as when and where the power comes in and drops off)
How was your truck before the second swap?

I think that the truck would run great with that cam and have a nice low powerband so you won't have to spin the snot out of it. A 2600 converter, like a Circle-D reworked trailblazer converter, should compliment that cam nicely. Guys have run that cam in 6.0's in the past with good results...litredevil(sp?) used to have that combo IIRC. You could also use the inexpensive and reliable LS6 springs with that cam, and it should work well with stock heads.

That thing sounds awesome. I don't think that it will lope quite as much in the LQ9 though. Are the Aerochamber mufflers loud? I'm have a GMPP cat back on there right now, and it sounds decent, but I wish it was a tad louder. I am going to be putting on a set of the OBX LT's in the near future, so that should wake it up a decent amount.

I know the basics with cams, but not much more. How would something like this compare to the XR269?

the specs are very similar from what I can tell. Does the added lift make a big difference? The operating range is a lot smaller, but that could just be the difference between the way TF and Comp rate their products.

Here is the same cam in a 5.3L for the OP to consider (pretty sure it's a different exhaust set-up though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prFtJXVFgWk. It does seem to have a little less lope in the 5.3L, so the comment above that it might not lope much, if at all, in a 6.0L is likely to be the case.

I run a 222/226 in a 6 liter. It drives like stock, operating range is 2200-6800 rpms. It definitely gives up power below 2200 compared to the stock cam, which is most noticeable on the highway. It doesn't have the "snap" when you lean in on the throttle that the stock cam does. But this was to be expected, and the EPS store owner told me this. A 3000 stall would be a nice one to go for with the cam you have listed, it will get you up in the RPM range quicker. I think if you want a good cam give Geoff @ EPS a call, he's been designing these LS1 cams for over 10 years now. He will tell you the true operating range of the cam. My opinion is given that you want to shift no higher than 6000, I would look at a 210/218 cam.

the aerochamber isnt too loud, and hardly any rasp at all, so i recommend them. i got a vid inside the cab under regular accel in my channel
