Thanks George. The LM7 is what I see too. The cam will happen this spring. Right now I'm working on a custom tune and it breathing better, kind of waking it up some.

You have to tune your truck after cam install, is probably what theyre referring to..... As far as the engine codes and all that check your rpo label in the glove box...

I had the small 219/233 Thumpr in my truck. Solid best of both worlds cam. That 109 LSA gives it a heavy and mean chugging idle, but past 2,000 rpms it smooths out and you get a solid low end torque curve and decent peak horsepower numbers without having to rev the snot out of it. Long tube headers are a great match and get a dyno tune. If your on a budget that cam works fine with the cheap LS6 Blue valve springs.

I havent looked at the cam you are referring to specifically... but im general the thumper cams are designed for the rectangle heads. Not that it wont work great in your set up and deliver everything youre looking for, but you could do even better.

i wouldnt go about sayin they were designed for square ports. they have one intention and to make sound like the old school setups

the baby thumper worked well for my 5.3 and quite a few years ago a red truck on here forget dudes name ran the larger thumper in his ls2 and was mid 11s in his rcsb

You talkin about Skeet... the guy with LS3 heads?

And you can get old school sound out of a cam with that is slightly more tailored to the heads he has. Again, I think its a good cam and it will meet all his goals, but it could be improved from a power prospective.

im well aware of everything done to skeets as i tuned it, but not referring to skeets truck....skeets was a lq9 with ported square ports

im referring to another red truck that hurt his big motor and tossed in a stock ls2 with a thumper and ran 11s with that cam

also thumpers are made for sound not exactly targeting power goals, they do however make some decent numbers

also my thumper sounds nothing like other ls cams ive played with in last decade, it sounds more like a SBC

Ok, I'm not familiar with the other truck.

George, they achieve that sound by jacking up DCR and opening the exhaust early. It can be done with a cam that is slightly better suited to a cathedral... that's all I'm saying.

generally those characteristics above tend to lend themselves to a cam that appears as a square port cam.
