If you go with that cam more than likely you will need a 4000 - 4400rpm converter to get optimal performance. This depends on what kinda of truck you have also. You never said if you have a Reg cab, Crew cab, etc.

You will also need Gears for sure and I would prob get New heads or some head work. That is a pretty big cam even for a 5.3L, but if you do all the mods to support the cam, it will run very good. You will also have to rev your engine pretty high. Your stock tranny may or may not hold up.

I am just telling you the facts if you are looking for a bigger cam like that. If you want to keep your truck somewhat stock then look at a smallish cam.

 

Its a reg bed and reg bed....What about the ls1 hot cam?

 

Hot Cam = 219/228 .525/.525 112 LSA

Its not the best choice on a cam, but certainly a lot better than the 232/242 in a 5.3L. That 232/242 is just way too big lol unless you do all the mods to support it.

With the hot cam you can use LS6 or LS9 springs to keep the cost down, but IMO i'd rather get something like a TSP220 or TR220 with a 3000rpm converter since you have a reg cab.

If you get the hot cam you will still want about a 3000rpm converter at least as well..

If you go for the TR220 you can use the LS6/LS9 springs too.

You can get away with running the stock converter on a 220/220 cam, but it will still have some "dead spots" and be kinda a turd down low at certain rpms. I highly suggest a converter for any cam really.

CircleD makes a 278mm 2600-2800rpm or 3000-3200rpm converter for a really good deal.

 

The Hot Cam can sound mean, and is inexpensive, but isn't the best performer at all. It's an old lobe design that is way "lazy" compared to the cam lobes available today. It can also be challenging to tune, not because of the duration/LSA, but since the lobes are lazy and ineffecient.

 

I have the smallest lunati voodoo its got a nice little lope at idle and pulls pretty good for a street truck. sounds reall good now I got a super 40 weled up. I dont have it tuned or anything and dont have any problems. if you want alot of lope I would recomend getting a larger voodoo I am extremly impressed with mine.

 

i have been very intrigued by the lunati cams as of late, heard nothing but good things about them!

 

why not just get something that has been proven time and again and always sounds good, a tsp220 or tr220...but like stated above you will need a converter for it to run the way most would want it to run

 

i had 2 different cams from lunati 60510 and 60513 i belive.. both gave me great results.. best of an 8.9 with the 212/218 and 8.59 with the 217/223... both on a 3k stall... i really liked the 217/223 because of the better top end.. i would recommend this cam since it gave me great results...
