bbc on alcohol

last night i started thinking about building my first alcohol motor for the new project im getting. it will be a carburated 496, i know i will need an alcohol carb and spark plugs but as far as i know those are the only things different between a gas motor and alcohol motor. does anyone want to give me some advice on what to look for or what to expect if i go through with it?

we run alcohol on our vega small block id recommened a ruperts alky carb he is from tenn.. no problems out of it and just the fueling system from it when we put it on alky it ran 2500$s to switch from gas to alky.. but its the best money spent.. or go with a rons toliet bowl..

As long as you are running alcohol, you might as well put a blower on it! :D

i will need a carb but im not sure what size, probably an 850 or 900 i guess. is this pump set up from summit ok? the truck might be taken to the track once a month or so and will never see the street (well, i dont plan on it anyway) and im expecting it to make around 700rwhp (thinking low so i dont get disappointed when it doesnt make what i want)

Methanol

if going to methanol as a fuel I would highly recommend installing mechanical fuel injection as in Ron`s flying toilet or an Inderle unit.
I personally am partial to Ron`s flying Toilet. ran it on a stroker small block 388 ci. engine in a drag truck/s15 jimmy. a 12-1 compression with vortec heads and around .530 lift cam made a little over 600 hp.at the crank.
picked up almost a full second off My e.t. over a race fueled carb setup .
be prepared to use a lot of fuel, it will burn between 2 and 3 times more than compared to gasoline.but alky is a bit cheaper. You will never have overheating problems with an alky motor and it really picks up power when You go over 14to1 compression ratio.or add boost of Your choice.
have seen complete setups on ebay and racingjunk.com for under 2 grand in most cases.
be very careful alky is very addictive. lol !!!!!
