Another cam/stall question...

Hello I have a daily driven 2001 RCSB Silverado 137k miles 5.3/4l60 current mods are as follows;
1 3/4 longtubes-no cats, egr/AIR pump delete
Fast 102 with 102 tb
cai
borla catback
Wheatley tuned
auburn posi 3.73s
I know it is not relevant but caltracs and hotchkis sway bars. Gran Turismo brembo rotors and pads all around.

I have an 02 Ls1 out of a vette with 22k miles that i will drop in my truck soon enough. I will use the bolt-ons I have on my 5.3 with the ls1.

My question is what is a well rounded cam for the Ls1 that will not be too much of a dog down low dont mind losing some low end but i dont want a cam that starts making power too high in the rpms. I have read the TR220 and TR224 are solid proven cams. wondering if i can go a bigger (228 duration as an example) keeping good street manners. I dont care how the cam sounds, not going to choose cam on sound. As far as a stall i was thinking an FTI 3600 because my buddy has a ls2 gto with one and it drives good for my taste. dont know if thats too big of a stall for 22x duration cam

I also have 243 heads that i would like to use instead of the 241s. I will pnp either set of heads which ever one is better for the suggested cams.

Thank you....

If you are gonna run a ton of converter then why stress over low end tq?

ltr450ryder 11-30-2012 08:54 AM

The converter will take up what the cam loses down low and with a 3600 stall I would do a tsp 224/228. Should do good in that truck of yours

EPS 222/226 has made great power in ls1.LS1tech has some good dyno charts on them! Very stout for a smaller cam

Thanks for the answers gentlemen,
The reason I am stressing over low end because I don't know if that is too big of a converter for a truck, I was trying to go big on the converter because I always read "I wish I would have gone bigger. So just get a big right off the bat.

I will consider those cams gentlemen.

Anyone else?

I agree with the 224/228 cam. That would be a well rounded cam for what you're looking for. What diameter converter are you looking at?

Good to see another Vegas member on here!

Slo_Truck 11-30-2012 03:58 PM

Haven't looked into diameter yet. The smaller the tighter it is correct?
How are the tsp 224/228 street manners?

oakley6575 11-30-2012 04:11 PM

Opposite. The smaller, the looser.

Slo_Truck 11-30-2012 04:17 PM

Oh ok. Learning has just occurred. Lol..

There are a lot of people that run a 3600 stall and dd their trucks with it. I have a tr224 in my 5.3 with a 3000 stall converter, and I wish I would have gone with a looser stall, but already had this one for my z71. I would run at least a 3600 stall. If you're not worried about manners, go with a higher one.
