86 c30 tow rig lq4 80e swap

So Im going to be starting a swap soon for my race car hauler. Truck is an 86 c30 going to have an 04 Lq4 and 80e from a savana van in it. Ive got an isky 3x12 from my race car (went bigger cam) and am planning on putting some fresh head gaskets on it. So my main question is what are y’alls thoughts on having the heads milled off .030 to give a small bump in compression and a good valve job as far as helping with towing. Im not trying to build an all out race truck just want something that tows good and has power if i need it. Also what kind of stall and brand do most of you guys that tow a lot go with?

I would keep it stock cam if you want it to just plain old work without a fuss. Stock stall is going to tow the best too.

Not sure that cam would be ideal for what you want to do with it.

If just gaining a little more power is what you wanted, sure mill the heads to gain compression and get it tuned for the change.

I appreciate the response. Is the triple 12 just not ideal for towing? I would have thought that the smaller duration and lower lift would have been perfect for a torquey street/towing cam

94, I'm not sure what a 3x12 cam is, but if you're going to shave the heads, why not just go with a set of 5.3 heads? Lower CC chambers and I do know many that did that to their Fbodies back in the day.

For a one ton truck you could also do a roots on top. Will give you that lower rpm torque needed for towing as well. But if you do a roots, I would not raise the compression unless you plan on running E85 to handle the cylinder temps. 91/93 would not be able to keep up with the higher compression and the roots.

Well i would lose a bunch of flow going from a 317 head to say an 862 so i dont think that is worth it. The cam im referring to is the stock48 isky grind thats 212/212/112lsa. Its well known for being a smaller na and turbo cam for making great low end.
