5.3 Cam question??

Hey guys, i got a new cam for my 5.3 avalanche..specs Lift .630/.644 Duration 215/231 Lobe 118..i also got Patriot Gold .650" kit By the way do i need to change the pushrods for hardened ones or is it okay to leave it as it is?

The stock rod are weak, you'll need new hardened one for sure. The biggest cam i'd run on stockers is a LS6, there just not made for the heavy spring and high RPM's.

how long will it last without hardened pushrods?

sonoma43 May 6, 2009 08:32 AM

not very long...they will bend for sure

Thats a super big cam for a heavy avalanche..........

loooool yea but atleast ill make it fly a bit..how do u think it will turn out?

pewterliftedz May 6, 2009 11:36 AM

ur gonna need a big ol' stall for that cam...
what size are u plannin???

Basool May 6, 2009 12:25 PM

im thinkin of a Yank 3200??

Mangled03gmc May 6, 2009 12:29 PM

Too much cam(lift), for stock heads... You will also want hardened push rods, regardless of what cam you change to :)

for sure u going 2 need aftermarket pushrods, your gonna have a massive lift, imo u would beniffit more from a larger stall more like 3600-4000 range...i got a pi 3600 and thinking of gettinga a bigger one....good luck
