Who regrets 2016+ 5.3 engine choice
Hey guys,
A little backstory, I used to own a 2008 supercharged 5.3 silverado, was a fun truck to drive, ended up getting a 2016 F150 Lariat with the 3.5 ecoboost last year. I enjoy the truck and the ecoboost, but want to get back into a GM, the looks of the GM have won me over. Long story short, I want to get back into a v8, and am thinking about getting a 2016+ Sierra, but am on the fence about settling for a 5.3 v8 since they have many to choose from, or wait it out for a 6.2 8 speed. I found an all terrain that I like, but it has the 5.3.
Is the 5.3/6 speed that terrible? I have efi live and can tweak the "lazy" throttle response from the transmission, but are most of you happy with the 5.3 or do you wish you would have gotten the 6.2? The motorhead in me says to wait for a 6.2, but I can't seem to find any in my area. I don't plan on supercharging the next truck, but wouldn't mind a tune/full exhaust.
The feel of the 2016 3.5 ecoboost and 6R80 is great, don't want to get into a 5.3 and hate it

I'm pretty happy with mine. 6.2 would be fun but I am having fun finding out what this 5.3 can do.

Is your F150 tuned? My truck with an e85 tune is quicker than a stock Ecoboost F150. Beat a few of those at the track. I can say a tune only Ecoboost is much quicker than a tune only 5.3 and probably quicker than a tune only 6.2 as well. Seen a tune only crew cab 4x4 F150 Ecoboost run consistent 12.50s. I will be happy if I could run that in my 5.3 with the stall and a supercharger.

No its not tuned, I've heard too many horror stories about crappy tuners...not trying to grenade the motor and have to spend $5k+ on a rebuild. That's another reason for wanting to get back into a v8...
Is your 5.3 running on e85? Stout truck!

Yeah I have been running e85 for quite a while now. Run consistent 14.10s on e85 and best time on 93 was a 14.37@ 95 mph.

Heres my stock 2018 silverado with 6.2 and 8 speed. I owned a 700whp duramax the past 2.5 years and was sick of the diesel. Traded it on in this and have been very happy with it so far! I plan to do e85 and headers. Seen a couple people gain 80hp with just those 2 mods.

wait for a 6.2...IMO going from a 3.5 Ecoboost to a 5.3 will be a huge disappointment, if it were me I would just buy a 5.3 and swap in a 6.2 myself, it would be the cheapest option as 6.2s command a premium and are usually optioned out, plus there have been a lot of complaints about the 8 speed, most prefer the 6l80e...you can get a low mileage 6.2 for around 5k, swap it in over a weekend and sell your 5.3 for $2k
