Removing resonator to help with drone
 

I know the internet says this is wrong but I disagree. Resonators are designed to work with certain frequencies. Changing mufflers, pipe diameters, and pipe lengths can change all of that. I've got some drone with my new setup and I'm contemplating removing the stock resonator that comes with the 6.2 exhaust. Thoughts? Worst case is if it makes it worse I just weld it back in.

True, frequencies change with changes to the exhaust system, and while that's correct that worst case you can weld the resonator back in if it becomes too obnoxious; is the reason you're doing this is because the drone now is unacceptable? There's a sticky up in Engine and Exhaust performance about making a J tube for drone and explaines the lengths needed for frequencies and such...……….

Most will say to leave it, but you'll have to try it and find out.

I can't see how removing any resonator will help with noise of any type. It's there to cut down rasp etc. But they also lower the total noise level, which is essentially where drone comes from.

Is it unacceptable? Eh. I could live with it. Wife on the other hand probably not. I'm about to find out in an hour. Got a 2hr round trip coming up that's all freeway.

I'm looking into the j tube. Hopefully I'll have some time this week to do it. I've got an 8hr round trip this weekend with the family.

Take a hack saw or battery powered reciprocal saw and cut the pipe right before the resonator before the trip to come back and see how it goes lol. If you hate it weld it back together.

Have a resonator on the way there and none on the way back. If you hate it, you'll really hate it after an hour lol

I my old 08 6.2 I had it with headers no cats and the stock muffler no resonator and the with the Magnaflow 12090 muffler no resonator.

neither had drone on the hwy or pulling but the stock muffler had slight drone in stop and go traffic around idle.

i just cut it off and left dumped. Then for inspections I just band clamped it back on for the day.

Got my resonator tube in. 24" long. Find out tomorrow how it works. Also added a couple of the wide oreilly's clamps. Going to have to stop by another store and buy 1 more and then find a 3.5" one.

:soapbox: Folks, when you sell your vehicle be sure to include the jack tools! The hardest part of this install by far is having to work around the damn spare tire. If that thing was out of the way it would have made this so much easier. I tried every socket I could find to try and lower it with no luck. Had to buy a jack and tool kit for $50 which has yet to ship despite being ordered on Saturday.

I'll be darned if that thing didn't knock down a ton of the drone. There is still some there so I'm going to have to extend it but 75% of it is gone.

What exactly do you have there now, a 6.2 catback with stock muffler and resonator removed?

My exhaust is so quiet you can't even hear it on the highway, at all. So I'm confused why you had drone I guess.

I need to take a video so y'all can hear how quiet mine is.
