Regular Cab getting the 8L90?

Title says it all. I am looking at trading my Sierra Denali AWD for a Regular Cab 2WD, mostly due to wanting to make a faster vehicle (losing 1100 pounds, and losing the issues which come with breaking front axles, ability to change rear gears, and don't need the extra room...), I am just wondering if the Regular Cabs will be getting the 8L90 like 09 when they got the 6L80e...

Nobody saw it coming then really, I just don't want to buy a truck and the next year they start coming with the 8-speed...

Nobody knows?

Yes the '16's with 5.3 are getting the 8 speeds. Maybe even the 4.3.

That is great news. 650 lb/ft max should be great with a nice boost setup! It looks like I will be waiting. I am confused at the lack of performance speculation on this website given the obvious "need for speed" everyone has...

Thanks for the reply though. Is there a place I could find more information? I have googled and found nothing.

I just saw some articles on yahoos page in the past few, Restyled 2016 Chevrolet pickups or something of the sort. At least 3 articles though. I didn't care for the front end at first but it grew on me so I think I may do it again lol.

I think I like it too. I will wait until I can get one at a decent price (sub 30k...).

I saw a review which compared the 0-60 time of the 6.2 trucks with the 6 speed vs 8 speed, and I think it shortened the 0-60 a whole .5 seconds too!

Should be great news for the RCSB crew....

Ive been looking into this as well; i saw the restyled articles a few days back but i couldn't find any official news. Mainly just speculation.
How has the 8L reliability been compared to the 6L?

I have read of a few issues, but nothing like when the 6L80 came out, and there are more people on the forums nowadays talking about their 8-speed.

Common gripes are confused "get through the gears" shifting, and a harsh downshift coming up to a light. Both every time were fixed by resetting adaptives, or getting a new tune altogether.

By the time they hit the 2016s most of the bugs should be worked out. The constant shifting gripe is perceived by most as normal because it has more gears, just takes getting used to because people's previous truck had a 4 or 6-speed.

None hurt yet that I have found that required a replacement.

I thought the gear hunting was a little different when i went from my 2001 with a 4l60 to the 6l80 in my 2010. You're right about a tune fixing that up though. Im planning to get a 2016 rcsb and put a tvs1900 on it

Thing is, I hope tuners can get it figured out quick. There are plenty who have no clue how to tune the VVT/6L80 combos...

I am sure the 8L90e is much more expensive than the 6L80e (5kish).
