Default I guess we all get to look forward to broken valve springs.

After Jonblarc's post I started thinking how odd it was he broke a valve spring so I started to google. Very first thing that came up was this video. Fast forward to 40 seconds for the action.

I drive the dog **** out of my truck a good amount, and I'm surprised I haven't broken a spring yet when other guys that are nice to their trucks have. Just add this to the long list of fail on these trucks. It's a good thing they look better inside and out than any other truck and run like a mother *******er.. But the DOD/AFM lifters, now valve springs, vibrating driveshafts/exploding driveshafts, warped axle flanges, toothpick motor mounts, rattles and squeaks.. I'll just wrap it up with I'm really glad I passed on that 55k brand new truck me and the wife looked at and I only paid 23,800 for mine.. I bought mine with high miles because I want to mod it and take it apart and put it back together and ****. Rant over.. on to bitching about valve springs. Oh and don't get me wrong, the grass ain't greener on the other side (with domestics), I'm a tech and work on all makes and models so I see it all. I just wish Toyota or Nissan had built this truck exactly as is but with Japanese quality.

Sounds like thars justification for a cam upgrade. Sorry honey but I have to spend this $1000 for preventative maintenance.

Hey that's the exact pitch I'm going for tonight with my wife tonight. See the facts are honey

And it might work because she was alright with a 1000$ fix but if we would of dropped 5000$ on a used motor she would have puked. But still cheaper to fix a blown engine on my 6.2 than pretty much anything on my old duramax!!!!! It won't be until after summer if I do a cam because it will take me for every to do it and my truck can't be down during the summer because of the boat.

I googled it too last night, after I found that spring broken into pieces. And I was surprised the amount of hits it got. I still love my 6.2 even though I looked at Ecoboost when my last 6.2 was totaled. I couldn't justify the issues they have with the timing chain at 60,000 miles and the price to fix it was like $3,000

I just want say thanks to everybody for the help.

I've owned one ecopos and I will never own another one. Ever. Mileage sucked, sounded like crap, problems with water condensing in the intercooler. I traded in a year old fully loaded 2011 f250 lariat 4wd diesel for one of those and it was the biggest mistake I've made with vehicles.

EXACTLY!!

I was just looking for an excuse lol.

And Jon & Bgbldodge, yep, still doesn't scare me away enough to venture into a Ford. I have to work on them, I know what that's like. No wayyyy.

I don't think it's all that common, I can honestly say I haven't seen one come through the shop with a broken valve spring yet. Cams and lifters, all the time. No springs yet. Used to see them on the LS engines every once and a while though.

Hopefully not.

But regardless I've already pitched it to the wife and she's sold on it. I have to sit and do serious thinking if I'm gonna mess with this 5.3 anymore or just pick up a 6.2 and swap it in. I don't want to mess with the 5.3 over having a 6.2, but if I go 6.2 it will be used, and I know my engine is good, rolling the dice on an expensive used motor is always a little scary. But if I go 6.2 i'll tear it down on the stand and do cam and springs while it's out.
