Default Really frustrated

Ok I bought a 14 truck and it's not perfect but I love it. Problem is I want to really make some hp but the fuel system sucks and the 6 spd will only handle so much, 700 max on a 2wd . My truck weighs 5800-6000 any given day because it's loaded and it's my work truck. I can unload it in 20 min and take it to the track and I would like it to be able to pull double duty and run high 6's. I'm ready to digest the fuel system upgrade possibly even a 6.2 as well but the trans is an issue. There are no 8l90 or 4l80 swaps that I can tell...maybe stand alone? There are 1k hp 6 spds available from Circle D and Patc but that is on a 4k lb Camaro. Still won't be enough for a heavy pig. So WTH do I do? I do not want problems. Bullet proof is worth the spend in my opinion. About ready to do an earlier 2500 RCLB 2wd since I stay loaded 360 days a year anyway. Am I dreaming? Just wait for electric lol?

There's 6L80's taking more than that and continuing on

Look at the CTS-V with the 90, there's a ton of those out there around 1k to the tire and they are fine

Which leads to a 6L90 being an option

Or swapping a 8 speed in with wiring harness and PCM from a 8 speed 4x4 truck. If that's something you want to do I'll buy a 6.2 with 8 speed and 4wd with harness and computer and you can have everything but the 6.2 (if I find one complete for the right price) but this option would be expensive and a pain

Could always turn it up and just see if the 6L80 holds. They sell for around $1200 used with low miles if it takes a **** on you.

I remember that PC 2wd truck that made it to high 10's and he started having trouble at 700. I''m maybe 400-500 lbs heavier unloaded. The Cads weigh even less. On Circe D's website it says a 6l90 is rated 1100 vs 1000 for the 6l80 but that is for much lighter cars. Both Speartech and Patc told me they don't have any conversions for 8l90's or 4l80's for my truck. I'm about ready to go back to an 06-07 so I can do a 4l80. I could just plunk down 45k for a nice RCSB 10L90 4wd F150 with dealer installed Whipple and warranty. 620 rwhp out the door stock. If I am patient (which I'm not) in time I know someone will be able to make a conversion possible. I really would love an 8l90 tuned because it would hold a hell of a lot and need less converter.

The CTS-Vs aren't that light. They are a 4200lbo car.

If the conversion of "1000lbs=100hp" you're still at 900hp input power (minimum) on a built 90e

just my $.02, carry on!

I'm running a ton of power thru my 6l80, just get it tuned properly and it will hold just fine.

Same here, my 6l80 has around 160k miles.
Supercharged, AWD, made a hand full of track events and shes running strong (knock on wood).
The only thing i changed on it was i put a 6l90 converter off a CTSV.. Oh and im running dual trans coolers, im sure that helps some.

Dont underestimate the 6l80.. If i could guess, im in the low 700whp range? Im not sure.

Edit: Its also a crew cab, with sound system, 22's etc..

Ted, ta7akum motorsport (or tahakum motorsport, seen it spelled both ways on their vids) in the UAE have several turbo 4wd short bed reg cab trucks running 9's on stock transmissions. I know a few of them should be 6L80 trucks. The vid I am posting below.. should be a 6L80 truck. Its a 5.3 reg cab and finished the 1/4 mile in 4th gear.. and ran a 9 sec ET at around 140 or so. So that's gotta be a 6L if it was only in 4th at around 140

I don't think you need to worry about it. And also like arthur said. Picture the vast majority of vehicles 6L's are in, they're all tanks. CTS, Camaro, Trucks, G8's.. Most of them are in the low 4k range and you're likely in the mid to upper 4k unloaded.

Ted watch this vid

Serious question have we seen any proof the 6L80 is that much slower than the 8 speed. I mean I know on cars they are showing improvement but we have a much lower rear end which I would think would make 1sr and 2nd in the 8 speed that much more useless.

Just asking because I haven’t seen a video where somebody took a 6speed and 8speed 6.2 or 5.3 and lined them up.

There is an exceptionally good video on Tech on how to tune the 6l80.

It’s a walkthrough on how to tune them, NA and power adder.

Maybe not 100% but it’s some of the better how-tos out there.
