From what i am seeing is GM is dropping the 6 speed from the v8s in favor of the 8. All the info I've seen i haven't seen the 6 listed. Just they 8s and 10s

Yea the 17s and 18s the 8spd was optional with the 5.3 (6.2 always had 8spd). Starting in 2019 everything gets the 8 with the option of the 10.

I'm sure it will get phased out someday. Though I still saw that you can get a Suburban and Yukon with a 5.3/6 Speed combo still.

If the clunking between shifts is what we are considering the "issue", then id say its been an issue since the 6 speed.

My denali now does it every so often, if i try to speed up in between shifts, ill feel the transfer case clunk away. Lol

GM is so behind with nothing to compete with a RC F150 5.0 10spd. Probably not a big seller anyway except to a truck nut like me.

Worked fine since and it is tuned as well.

I would prefer a 6 speed but I don't think you can get one with a 6.2 past 2015.
There where a few 2014 and early 2015 6.2's that had them but they are hard to find.

I have a bud with a 2015 6.2 6 speed.
there are a few bulletins regarding 15-17 8spds. Most issues can be resolved by the dealership if they have a good trans tech there. Ive gone through a few '15-'16s that were "within spec" but on the looser end and caused clunks, delays, and hard down shifts. The largest issue IMO is that the TCMs need to be trained to the unit. It needs to be taught how long it takes for the clutch pack to physically "lock" vs. when the tcm energizes or releases that circuit.
I bought a 15 denali buyback and fixed the trans under warranty. Works flawlessly. One thing to note, '15 & 16 have 5yr/100k, 17+ have 5yr/60k Powertain warranty.

How is this done? Can it be done with hp tuners?

That is sort of the goal of "adaptive shift"; you tell it how long you want the shift to take and it does the rest. If you have a "lazy" clutch pack it will keep increasing pressure until it hits its target. It does this automatically, so to "train it" you just need to drive around for a while.
