That's what they're doing. Now it'll have the ability to cut down to 1 and 2 cylinders.

father in law bought a new Silverado with the 6 speed specifically. He heard the 8 speeds were destroying themselves and engines when hauling/towing/passing

I'm keeping my RC 14 until maybe the 10 speed gets mainstream. Probably not even then unless I can write it off on my taxes. Trucks are too damn expensive imo. I like the 28k I paid on this one.

Interesting..
Ive actually been looking at the current denali's and High country's, so you guys recommend getting the 6speed?

I have a 6 speed in my current denali, and was hoping of getting the 8 speed in the 15-17 models, but sounds like ill be better off with a 14-15 model with the 6?

6 speed is the way to go. Hopefully they don't drop the 6 for the 8. If they get the 8 speed figured out then ok, but until then. I'm gonna look for the 6 speed trucks.

Heard some interesting news today. A friend of mine was trying to do a lemon law on his truck with the 8 speed and gm today him they are working on a recall. That's all they told him. Hopefully they've figured out the problems and will be correcting it soon. Really want another Denali.

I have 2015 6.2 8 speed 4wd.
They put a new torque convertor in it at low mileage to fix poor shifting and clunks.
Worked fine since and it is tuned as well.

I would prefer a 6 speed but I don't think you can get one with a 6.2 past 2015.
There where a few 2014 and early 2015 6.2's that had them but they are hard to find.

I have a bud with a 2015 6.2 6 speed.

I have the 8 speed in my 18 and dont have any issues with it. Seems to be fine to me. You can make it act weird at low speed if its about to shift and you give it a sharp throttle transitions one way or another, but overall im very happy with it.

The fed is really cracking down on manufacturers about end users being able to easily disable fuel conservation and emissions control features. The manufacturers are getting major incentives to meet their CAFE numbers only to have them removed after purchase.

As as far as the 8 and 10 speeds trans...it’s almost all software. The big luxury car companies have been fighting these for years! BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes, etc. had multiple software updates per year trying to get them dialed in when they first came out...but it was the same way when the first 6 speeds came out. (GM actually made a bunch of their transmissions, too, until they shifted more to ZF) With the 10 speed being pretty much completely engineered by Ford I would be curious if they are each doing their own software or if Ford is heading that up too. With the trans doing well in the F150s I guess we’ll find out if the GMs hold up as well or not.

FYI, to tune the 17+ GM trucks transmissions you have to physically send the TCM to HPTuners to have them unlock it to be able to tune it.
