A 10-speed automatic for GM pickups?
I was just reading the Dec Car & Driver and saw that Ford and GM are working together to develop a 10-speed auto for future pickups and cars. This is supposed to be ready in three or four years, I guess. I googled that and discovered that it's been reported earlier this year but I must have missed it.
Are you kidding me? How big and complex will that thing have to be? I just hope it doesn't mean they'll be limiting torque to keep some fragile POS alive. Anybody know anything about this? Here's one article: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...news/130419905 |
I read that a few months ago, but I heard they were 8 and 10 speed tranny's.
Hopefully with two huge companies working together they make a a decent product. |
Heard about this months ago in FLT's (FastLaneDaily) youtube channel. They are supposed to be working on engineering 10 speed trannies for trucks. I hope they do soo and see what GM and Ford can do. Make the truck drivers save more fuel.
I guess they can leave their differences out for a little while no? |
Might as well go CVT.

Didnt ford and gm supposedly cooperate on the current 6 speed?
|
ZF builds most autos on the market nowadays anyway... They are just building versions for different auto makers. The current 6L trans is very similar to the Fords 6R series... I'm sure this deal will be no different.
And from what I understand these aren't all separate gear changes, the TCC is being applied at different times to call them "gears" in a round about way they're correct since changing (or eliminating slip) is the same as changing the effective ratio. What they're doing isn't a new concept. |
