we're actually in the middle east and long stretches of roads with no cameras, radars, nothing... he travels alot as well, 3-4hour trips on a weekly basis.

Are the 3.23 gears for the 07+ trucks???

I am wanting to change the gears out in my truck to 3.73s but I really have no knowledge on were to start. What will i need to swap out my stock 3.42s for the 3.73s? I have a gmc 08 5.3 if that helps any.

Gears and a Master Install kit, Which consists of Shims and Bearings. If you check Rons Machining Services he sells them as a package so it's cheaper than buying them individually. It's usually a good idea to get a Locker to put in but you can always swap that in later. Just have to pay for labor again.

So im going to be doing the gear swap next week if time allows.. My buddy who graduated with me from SIU auto tech is going to spare time to lay on the garage floor and help me (hopefully).. And hopefully going from 3.23 to 3.73 will be a worth while improvement.. I couldnt see spending 300+ dollars to pick up the extra 0.17:1 that the 3.90s would have.. I would say that with no taller of a tire than i have it would be ok..
I am trying to do as many of the drivetrain upgrades as possible so that when i get ready to do the LS1 swap all i have to change is the engine and TC, headers and front pipe.. Should make life alot easier.. Doing these changes now will allow me to better diagnose them one at a time if there is an issue rather than doing it all at once and not knowing which one made a problem appear..

while we are here does anyone have a suggestion as to the best shift kit for a 4L60?

everyone runs the transgo hd2 and usually Corvette 1/2 servo and i'd recommend a sonnax super hold 4th gear servo.
Along with a trans cooler it should make the trans quite a bit longer. As long as you aren't shifting at real high rpms.

That is what i thought everyone was running.. I am supposed to be getting the corvette 1-2 servo, and the super 4th gear holding servo for xmas.. Both were cheap and i thought that since i didnt "need" anything i would ask for wants this year, and keep them cheap.

Thanks for the input..

By the way i cant say enough good things about rons machine from ebay, i called them and they were very helpful.. Easy to deal with.. I would recomend them to anyone..
