what mods can i do to not void warranty?
 

I bought a new 2011 5.3 ext cab sierra. I want to give it a little more power. I plan on installing a UD pulley, intake, and exhaust. I know a tune will void the warranty so what else can i do for more power and still keep my warranty? I was thinking about getting another computer and having a tune done on it so i can just switch it out with the stock one but I talked with a GM tech and he said since its a 6-speed trans that if there happened to be a problem with the trans, that it has its own module or something like that and it will come up when the dealership checks the truck regardless if it has the stock computer in, so what else can be done? thanks fellas

It really depends on the dealer you use, some dealerships are very easy and a tune wont effect warrenty at all (unless they can prove the tune is what cooked the motor, etc..) but some give grief over a CAI, it rly just depends on how big of a douche the service manager is

Federal law does protect buyers from dealers just automatically voiding their warranties with bolts ons. The issue is, can the dealership prove that your bold on caused the issue? There have been cases where a mechanic will pull crap out of their butts in an attempt to void the work. For instance, your engine blows. Well, the CAI provided more air and not enough fuel and caused the mixture to be too lean, causing then engine to blow. Is this likely? Not even remotely, but it's just an example of how they pull it off.

The less your dealer knows, the better. If you have a tune, default to the stock tune before taking it in and then deny, deny, deny like you just got busted for crack. lol

I wouldn't do any tunes at all if you wanted to keep your warranty. Your 2011 has a separate trans control unit in the transmission that cannot be changed easy. From what I understand any time the factory defaults are changed the tech2 can see the changes even if it was returned to factory defaults. Any time a vehicle is presented for powertrain and emmisions warranty the technician is required to take a picture of the tech2 screen and e-mail it to GM. GM decides the warranty not the dealership.
I had a 2011 5.3. I went through 2 engines the first 6k miles! GM did not take care of me but the dealership did! They bought back the 5.3 and sold me a 6.2. Man that 5.3 is a wheazer at best compaired to the 5.3. No DOD/AFM either.
