Swapping Brakes to 4 Wheel Disk.

Currently have Drums in th back & Disk in the front. Plan on adding a lot more HP & want to have good stopping power as well. Looking into Brembo, Baer, SSBC, or Willwood. How hard is it to convert the rear to Disk?

just go get a rear disc brake rear end and swap it in. simple

u will need to heat up the shock mounts and bend then to the correct angle or cut them off and put some good shocks /mount on it

Just curious, did you wind up getting the RCSB 6.2 6L80E you were talking about?

Depending on how much fabrication skill and work you want to put into it the 8.5" is a tough ass diff if prepped properly. If you swap the housing ends to a bolt in retention style you could upgrade to whatever spline axle you wish ( 33 probably cover most power/tow levels ) then swap the gov lock out for an Eaton or Wavetrac and you'd have a wheel standing strong differential. Best of all is you could swap on stock disk brakes from any GM solid axle you want and save a ton of coin on the brakes and still have a kick ass rear end.

Its a fair bit of work though so if you cannot do this yourself then seek out a complete diff as mention above

Bringing this back up... Just picked up an 08 Sierra RCSB with rear drums. Thinking of a future project... Can you just swap the rear drum backing plates to the disc set up from a Tahoe or Yukon? Is there a write up some where that talks about part numbers and years to source parts from?

I have not seen a write up on it. But YES you can swap backing plates. With out any modifications. NO bending or moving of any parts is involved. Bolt pattern on the backing plates are the same.

I swapped my drum brakes out to a dual piston setup that came off of a 3/4 suburban about a year and half ago.

Good to hear! How was braking and pedal feel after the swap? Do you think it requires a master cylinder swap to accommodate the larger dual piston calipers?

Also, Any pics during or after the swap?
