911 Problem
6.2 AWD denial 2008.
Last night while trying to back up for a gate to open the truck went backwards for 3 or 4 feet then locked the tries up and shook the whole truck. I thought I ran something over something.
Well it pulled forward fine and I was an hour from home with my toddler needing to go to bed so I just decided to drive it home. It made the trip with no problem. But I didn't have to go in reverse
Fast ward to this morning I get in the truck to back down the driveway. It rolls backwards about 10-15' then locks up the tires. I pulled forward a-little then try backing up again. This time it won't go backwards at all. Put in Drive again pulls forward fine then I put it in R and it won't go backwards at all.
SOOOOO
Is this a front diff problem since I'm full time AWD or did I lose Reverse.
I'm going to go home at lunch and put it in Neutral and see if it will roll backwards down the driveway.
If it doesn't that would mean a front diff problem right.
And if it dose that would mean its a trans problem right.
I'll take any advise.

Your troubleshooting method seems valid to me to isolate the transmission from the rest of the drive-train. However, if it locks up in neutral, it doesn't necessarily mean its a front diff problem. It could be the rear diff, u-joint or even transfer case (since it is a planetary drive). That's when you will need to get it in the air to diagnose each component.
Had you previously experienced any other symptoms of the front differential going out? Vibration, whine, clunking, etc?

The only other thing I can think of is. Every now and then and I mean maybe 4 times a year.
When I turn into my mom's neighborhood. It's a left hand turn but no bumps but transitions from smooth pavement to a loose gravel with tar sprayed over it to hold it down (if that make sense).
I will grab like the front left tire locked up for just a split second.
But that exact spot is the only time it has ever happen and it's not every time.

crawled under it at lunch.
Rear lower caliper bracket bolt was missing. So when you put it in reverse the caliper would rotate and bind on the rotor.
All is well 6 dollar bolt and we are good to good. Thank god.

Yea me to.
It went form there goes the money for our Caribbean vacation to,

Unfortunately yes.
just a few months ago I replace all my rotors with slotted and cross drilled rotors. So I can't blame anybody but my self. I think the dirt road I drove down yesterday just sped the prosess up of it backing out.
