2010+ gear swap question
I saw this information on another forum but was hoping someone here could confirm for me?
Starting in 2010, 1/2 ton Silverado's will only take up to a 3:42 without needing a new carrier. They changed the deck height on the carrier and it now requires an new carrier for anything above 3:42. The other issue is that the rear pinion carrier has changed a bit. The ID on the pinion bearings are the same, but both outer races are much bigger on mine than on the older models. They are super proud of the bearings to the tune of about $150 for the pair.

I cannot confirm any carrier changes but I am aware of the bearing changes and the high price on them. And they didn't have a timken # on them when I did my gear swap last year.

Any more news on this? I have a 2011 4wd & 3.08s that I want to do a gear swap on. One website store mentioned that I needed a new front carrier since I have 3.08s but I can't find any more information on this anywhere. I do know that I have to have the install kit for a 2009+

I actually just did the the gear swap in my 2010 the past 2 days. My truck had 3.42 gears and I was told that a front carrier was needed also do to a change in 2010 and up. I did buy the carrier but did not need it. I purchased from Yukon and when I pulled my factory front carrier out it had the exact same AAM part number stamped in it. This is what you will need if you have the 8.6 rear end and 8.25ifs in the front
+Ring and pinion for both.
+Yukon master install for the rear. The pinon head bearing is different and has a flange on the one end that looks like its an extra shim. From what I have been told the OD of the outer race is bigger. install kit
I reused front carrier, and installed a truetrac no special bearings need for truetrac and Yukon kit
I also used Yukon front install kit
Yukon kits include, bearings, seals, crush sleeves, red thread locker, marking compound with brush but the front kit is missing the locking tabs used for the back lash adjusters. You will need to get them from a dealer and the part number is 15876533. They are made of pot metal and will most likely crack when you pry them out. Also you will want to get the spanner tool from Yukon even though you are only going to use it once its worth the money.. I would be willing to rent it to you for a deposit and you pay shipping..

I found this on Yukon website, sounds like it didn't apply to you since you already had 3.42 gears...
