Gen IV V10 for 2007
Looks like GM is working on a V10 for the 2007 Escalade (All aluminum). It's said to be based on 4.8-6.0L. They are also working on an iron block version as well (HD trucks?).

There is going to be a lot of good stuff coming from GM in the 2006-2008 range
-LS7
-6 speed autos with higher torque ratings
-V10
-GMT-900
-RWD car platforms
-etc

OHV V10?
I'm bittersweet about that... It's nice to see them thinking like that... but I'd rather see a 400+inch V8 built than some yuppie-pleasing motor intended to steal back some Beemer fans or something. I can only imagine the gas-guzzler issue with a motor like that, though.
I suppose we'll always have our GenIII's for that stuff.

Yeah I'd take a V8 over a V10 any day, but there are benefits to having two more cylinders like emissions, increased air flow for cylinder size. I just hope it will sound better then the dodge V10s, they sound more like a V6 then a V8.
5.3L + 2cyls = 406 ci
6.0L + 2cyls = 455ci

The 8.1 is not that bad given its displacement. If GM uses direct injection on it in may surprise you what it will do MPG wise as all things being equal, direct injection is good for a 15 to 20% mileage boost over multiport and 10% power boost too. A side benifit of direct injection is knock control too because when fuel is injected just before ignition, it cools the mixture retarding the tendancy to knock or ping. I look for direct inject to be main stream on gas engines by 2010 at the latest.

It's gonna be a sad day in American history when the last Chevy rat block V-8 rolls off the assembly line after ruling the streets for 40 years.
GM has done a nice job updating the pushrod V-8 with the Gen III small blocks and has gone with them as their performance engines, but there is still nothing like the rumble and roar of the BBC.
A few years down the road we will probably have to deal with overhead cams
like the blue oval and Dodge boys. That's progress I guess.
I just bought a Silverado SS with the 6.0 LQ9 but may have to go out and get a HD with the 8.1 liter just on principle.
