the problem that is happening is be cause the block and pistons expand at two different rates. if you fire it up and let it warm up for a few mins without driving right away it will be ok, but most ppl just hop in and go, and depending on your driving habits it will beat on the cyl walls.

all 5.3's and 6.2's have nominal piston slap, it is acceptable to a point. just depends how bad it is.
#19210971 is NOT on backorder. Core price is $600 but I doubt GM will let you have an engine they are replacing under warranty. Nobody gets a discount on cores.

Could be wrong we'll see when they take it apart.

I almost always start mine on the remote and let it warm a bit.

What about an lsx long block, will the 6.2 intake and accessories bolt on??
LSX block would work but will need machining for proper bore. You'll probably have a hard time convincing them to put anything other than oem parts in it.

Dropped it off for surgery Tuesday a.m.
They gave me an 2012 lt for a loaner, man that thing is quiet.

So, Gm customer service calls me today, in his broken English [he is ok but speaks really fast, might be French Canadian] says something about piston rings yadayada.
I was busy when he called, so I couldn't quiz him.

I really hope these guys are not going down the AFM oil use and stuck piston ring route.

My 6.2 does not have AFM nor the oil consumption and noisey lifter stuff that goes with it.

Not going to judge yet, I hope they get it right.

I beleive that is for afm engines, am I incorrect?

I'll eat my shorts if it is lifter noise, but I don't care what it is as long as they fix it.

that's not gonna happen,
The dealer that is servicing my truck sends 60-70k a year worth of business to my shop.

Anyway, they are putting pistons in it, don't know why yet.

Oh my lord
I'm speechless.

The tributes from those that know him are so, so kind.
Never met the man,but he was always the guy that welcomed newbies and steered them along, shared his experience and was curiuos about what he didn't know.

Speechless
