Its all in how you write it up as to what gm will allow... I have rebuild quite a few 5.3s and 6.0s that started as wiped lifter rollers....

Me too... One guy i work with at my part time job half asses everything he does, i think he doubles his hours most weeks off of his own comebacks, getting paid warranty to do it again.... If it were up to me he wouldve never been able to come back to the company!! This is apparently the third store hes worked at....

People like that make it really hard for others to make a honest living in the auto business. Dishonest mechanics have helped formed this mantra that everyone in this industry lies. But I digress...

OP come to any decision?

A newly remanfactuer long block should run about $3500 most dealers are charging $100+ an hour, so figure $500-800 miscellaneous that leaves $3500-4000 labor. Somebody probably having a slow month. Call a different dealer I'll bet you get a better price.

Gm long blocks typically run about 7000 or so, and figure 18-20 hours labor.... Plus misc fluids efc....

Really... Last time I priced out an L76 6 liter reman from GM it was $5400 full retail and that's Canadian dollars. As a fun fact... my LS376-480 crate was $7500 CAD from a GM dealer... So no 5.3 is anywhere near 7k. 3500 USD sounds about right for an LC9 reman.. Or even less.

Well, I fat fingered that... Lol... Gm reman is about 4500 with parts and seals to replace an engine properly... Works out to be roughly 7000 with labor
