Are all 6L80(e) identical?
I have a 2011 Escalade AWD and I think the transmission is on its way out (191K on the odo)...so I'm looking to rebuild a 6L80(e) over the course of a few months for two reasons. One I think mine is on its way out (180k, hard shifting, etc...) and secondly, I'm kinda just curious how to do it, and figured it was good when mine eventually ***** the bed.
I'm a little confused with sourcing a core. Will any 6L80(e) work? Or are they specific to the 6.2 models - i.e bell housing, bolt pattern, case length, etc... I can find the 6L80(e)'s all over the place in junkyards in Tahoe's, Silverado's, Yukon's, etc however all the ones I've seen have the 5.3L engine. Will there be any problems using this? Aside from the AWD system and components.

From what I know if it came from a Truck/SUV/Van the transmission it is the same in a 4X4. Just know that the TCM that is on the valve body is specific to the vehicle it came from. You can not just purchase a junkyard transmission and have it work with your Escalade. The TCM would have to be reprogrammed to match your VIN/Operating system in the computer.
The corvette/camaro/SS/G8 stuff will be different because RWD and the corvette is the oddest because of the torque tube.

I have seen different part numbers for 2WD and 4WD/AWD 6L80s. Don't know what the differences are. The transmission has been updated and improved incrementally.
You could probably swap the TCMs and not need to flash, just a guess. If it does work, it will definitely need to relearn though.
Run your VIN through GMPartsDirect and see what numbers come up.
