he wanted the v4 mode off since he has 3.42 gears and on the hwy. it would go back on fourth in cruise control.

I noticed every time mine switches to V4 it unlocks the torque converter and the rpms go up. This looks to burn more fuel. The converter locks up in V8 mode, then when ready for V4 is unlocks; switches to V4 and locks up again. Way to busy for me.

Just by turning off the AFM, I don't think so.

the first 4 tunes i got, v4 mode didn't work at all.
now, it works and seems to have a lower threshold to engage than stock, my milage is almost 10 % better than my 04 5.3, same gears and xcab 2wd. and better than when this truck was new but not tuned or broken in
v4 mode engages frequently in urban driving at various speeds[ some quite low] and i live in a hilly area.
on the highway v4 will engage in cruise even going up a slight grade, .
this truck does not downshift on the highway
i didn't notice what the t/c is doing, i'll have to pay attention

This is very interesting, i just wonder if someone has found a good tune to make the most efficiency out of this situation. Kinda making me unsure about getting a nbs vmax with the way this acts.

I don't have the AFM lifters or solenoid in my L92 so I haven’t made any “real” changes to V4 mode but like I said before you can modify when it switches based on throttle position percentage (which would be load based), vehicle speed, and/or engine rpm. You should be able to configure it to suit your driving pleasure.

I did read the entire post. I'd say writing isn't one of your strong points, at least when it comes to making one. So 4mpg from your tune then? Possible, but I thinks its unlikely a tune alone would provide a 20% improvement in real fuel economy.
