6l90 running hot

MY TRANNY is running hot in normal temps itll hit 200 and when i get on itll hit 220-230uish got a after mkt cooler but that seems not to help i wonder if a fan on the cooler would help? any ideas would be appreciated

Wow shouldn't be that hot at all. You running a stall? Either way shouldn't be that high especially with a cooler. I would check you fluid level and make sure your cooling lines are not clogged or block off for any reason.

did you change the filter? did you get the dipstick and tube for that 6L90e? you know they are different from your 60e right? what type of fluid did you put in there? it requires the new synthetic trans fluid, not the old fluid.

mine in stop and go traffic in 100* weather only gets to 165* with a stock converter and a 40k cooler.

I agree thats way too hot, I dont have an aftermarket tranny cooler and pounding on it in 100* weather I only get to 175 or so, crusing is more like 150-160

yeah it has a converter and a cooler but is not routed threw the stock tranny ,imma wrap the tranny lines with the heat wrap stuff and service the tranny .what fluid does it use?if the regular trannt fluid got put in there will it be the cause of it running hot?

What cooler are you using?

It uses the new Dex VI? i think thats it?

yeah last nite after i ran it it got hot and started shifting kinda weird.what cooler setup did u run?

iamkeniff 07-06-2012 08:02 PM

Mine doesnt run anywhere close to that even in stop and go traffic muchless beating on it. Ive never seen past 175* in stop and go traffic with it 100* out.

How is your trans lines routed? Under the front support to the trans/cooler?
Did you put the 6L90e dipstick and tube? do you have a thermo gun?

RickLowpez 07-06-2012 08:14 PM

thermo gun? imma put two coolers plus a fan next week to see if that will work
