If its falling out if third you are losing pressure somewhere, probably in the 1-2-3-4/3-5-R drum.. I will see if i can find anything where the trans would act or apply something different in 4wd than 2wd, but there shouldnt be... Which transfer case do you have? The manual shift, auto, or the electric shift?

Even at 6800 ft at 110 mph you're still making enough power for a low 12 or even high 11 with gearing and traction. I would check the trans tune very carefully although I'm not a trans guy. A 4l80 would be a cheap almost bullet proof option but at your power level I would stick with the 6l80 for sure!

I had slipping issues turned out to be the check ***** in the valve body. Got an updated valve body and put metal check *****. No more issues the. The solenoid she started failing so new Tim and tune and haven't had anymore issues. I just put a 408 in my escalade with a 3k stall and I love the way it shifts.
Is your fluid real black?

Black fluid is normal, from the reaction with the clutches and coating on internal parts...so long as it isnt burnt.... Gm has a disclaimer in all the 6l80 info in si.. And there is also a tsb on it, i believe

I would do torlon checkballs not metal in the 6l80/90 they valve bodies and separator plates are too damn soft
