Default 6.2L Awd Sierra Denali Build begins

Left the duramax game after two decently modified (built trans 68mm turbos) and picked up an AWD 6.2L sierra denali. Have had it for about a week and its already lowered on TBSS 22's and magnaflow muffler/ crosa tip. My plan was to go after a cam and VVT delete soon. Long tubes would be ideal but I honestly don't want an obnoxiously loud truck so trying to stay away but I think I have an exhaust leak off my driverside manifold so they may just happen. My question is for best bang for your buck, should I go after a Whipple supercharger kit or do a cam/ heads and tune? Im guessing the cam/heads/ and tune will run me around 2500-3k as ill have a shop do the work. Where I can get a Whipple 2.3L kit this week for just over 5200 brand new and I would tackle the install. I plan on upgrading the converter to a 2800 stall also. This truck isn't a daily and id like a reliable quick truck. Any input or suggestions feel free.

If you had the cash, whipple will make
more Power for less work. Still need a custom tune. Prob cost you 6k in the end

Don't need a stall. I have to leave at idle with 4wd and stock converter. It will brake stall at 3k but there is no point because of traction and I'm 5.3. Both options could make similar top end power at low boost but drivability will be totally different. Whipple will feel like 550 ci with a 6.2 on low to mid rpm. Cam and heads will probably lose low end and then mid- top end be good. Blower easy to remove and take back to stock.

Im leaning that way for the ease of install.

Good point. Wish the newer 2.9L Whipple would be a drop in application but no Been reading on the 6.2L but haven't found out where the breaking point is for the bottom end? I know I may need a new driveshaft. Long tubes and the 2.3L Whipple and a smaller pulley id be in the low-mid 500whp I'm hoping. Any suggestions for upgrading injectors? I recall reading the tuner kit from Whipple doesn't include them ?

This is just my opinion but your truck will be loud with LT headers and even a stock muffler. I have my whole body dyno matted and it was loud. Going to full exhaust was barely an increase. It just takes a lot of load to move these trucks light to light and you get to hear it.

I think the bottom end is plenty strong because it's LS. They are proven. Have you talked to Whipple about the 2.9 upgrade if available? Don't know which injectors sorry.

I had LT headers with no cats on my old 08 6.2 denali with stock exhaust from the Y pipe back. I wasn't loud at all and had no drone. WOT it made a great noise but eventually I wanted it a little louder so I cut the rear resonator off and left it dumped over the rear axle. That setup was perfect.

Thanks, I got bored with the exhaust and ordered the Kooks LT and Catless Y last night. Should make driving this a little more fun till I pull the trigger on a Whipple around march. Was hoping I could wait to have it tuned once when I do the charger but can I get away without tuning it and running the LT's and Y pipe. Im sure ill be throwing a code or two.

My tuner mentioned putting headers on without a tune can cause major problems. Not sure if he was trying to push more tunes or if this is valid. I’d inquire in the tuning section before slapping those headers/Y pipe on.
