5.3 or 6.2 Trucks

Im looking at building a 2nd Gen Miata V8 project. So I wanna know what was the last year for a 5.3 or 6.2 with a 4l60 trans or 4l80 so I will know what truck to look for.

6.2 was only an option with the 6L80e.

The Gen 3 6.0 was used with the 4L80 all the way to 2007 and maybe even further in chassis cab stuff or izuzu box vans. Then they switched the 6L90e with the GEN 4 6.0.

As far as I know the 5.3 was last an option with the 4L60e in 2009. In 2010 they went with all 6L80e transmission and the 4L60e was only in the 4.8 trucks and V6 trucks.

As far as wiring and tuning go, the older GEN 3 computers are easier for tuning. I'd suggest using a P01 computer with a cable throttle body because the P59's from 03-07 require you have the same pedal, tac module and throttle body from the donor vehicle. Though if you went with a GEN 4 motor a GEN 4 harness and computer you could run other pedal assemblies on the DBW stuff.

LOL Shit man..... I will be the first to say I don't know shit about previous LS stuff. I have a Gen V 6.2 -6l80 but the trans won't fit and the 4L60 or 80 won't work with the Gen V controller. I can get a Gen 1 Avalanche for free with a 5.3 would that work? 04-07 Buick Ranier 5.3 I can get for cheap also

Like Mentioned Above, the 6.2L Silverado/Sierra only came with the 6L80E starting in 2007.5
The 4L60E was used up until 2009 with the 5.3 except in the Crew Cabs. The 2009 Crew Cabs with the 5.3 got the 6L80E.
The 4L60E was used up until 2013 in the Silverado with the 4.8L V8 and the 4.3L V6, and up until 2009 with the 5.3.

The 4L80E was never used in a 2007.5-2013 NNBS Silverado. The 2500/3500's used the 6L90E with the 6.0L.

Any 1999-2006(Classic Body Style 2007) 5.3 would be a better option, you will avoid all the AFM/DOD crap and it will be easier to find a complete conversion harness to use in the Miata. I am pretty sure 2005+ use an electronic throttle body, but can be easily swapped back to the cable type. A L33 5.3 would be your best option, it is an all aluminum engine and makes 310-Hp and 335-Tq. The Iron Block 5.3's weigh a tad over 100lb more, just in case weight is a concern.

For another twist, the 2009 - 2012 Colorado/Canyon's equipped with either the LH8 or LH9 aluminum 5.3’s were still saddled with a (RPO-M30) 4L60E. So yes, later model Gen IV V8’s were still available in some applications with a 4L60.
