4l80 swap
hello im swapping to a 4l80 from a 4l60 before i put it in the truck i wanted to do some upgrades to the unit so i dont have to worry about it for a while... truck is 2009 silverado boosted crewcab anyone know whats all needed to do the swap

Pcm of NC swap harness, modify crossmember, shorten driveshaft and a tune.
|
Anything internal I may need?

Not really, a stock 4L80e will do like double or more power in stock form than a 4L60e. They are very strong stock.
A HD2 shift kit isn't a bad idea though. If you plan for tons of power with lots of abuse it may be worthwhile to purchase a vendors rebuild kit with upgraded parts, better torque converter. |
yes it will def be abused lol

I would do a shift kit . And yes a good converter . I have a circle d one . I love it . Besides that a custom cross member. I didn’t cut my driveshaft just added the th400 yoke.
And plug and play do the hardness I didn’t want to re pin it . https://www.tunedbyfrost.com/products_dev1.htm |

I just finished the swap, getting the tune done friday.
Here is my parts list: 4l80 trans (64k miles) $800 Transgo HD2 kit $125 TH400/4L80 slip yoke (must be the long one and trim about 3/4") $60 1350 conversion u joint $15 TCI trans cooler $50 4L80 trans cooler lines (oem) $50 Conversion harness $100 Circle D converter (just call them, they sell one that will allow you to keep your stock flex plate) $600 Crossmember mod $50 Install HD2 kit and install trans $500 Dyno tune/trans shift points ect $350 You do not have to mod the driveshaft. I know i could have shopped around and saved a few bucks but my 60e was starting to slip and i just needed it done as fast as possible. Hope this helps |
I did the same swap on my 08 nnbs which kept popping 4l60 like toothpicks. All same work as above but did not have to get another crossmember or harness. Everything works great with no issues, also used existing cooler and trans runs at 185-195. Best upgrade ever especially for this heavy Chevy with 4dr, horsepower also jumped up as trans is holding!

One critical thing not mentioned here: 4x4 or 2wd? And is there a difference in the parts or mods needed?
Also, wouldn't a cross member from the donor vehicle work, rather than crafting a mod? I mean, say the 4L80E is out of a 2500 Suburban, going into a 1500 Suburban - aren't these the same chassis, just different trans? |
