Default 4.8l Swap To Ls2 Crate Engine In A 07 Silverado

Is swaping the 4.8l in a 2007 silverado for the LS2 crate engine just transfering the all the front accessories, harmonic pully, oil pan, and intake manifold, or is any thing else required. I checked the part number on the injectors for the 4.8L and the LS2 and they are the same part number. My goal is to swap out the engine and drive it like that for a month then swap out the 3.23 gears for the 4.10 gears and at the same time reprogram the ECM. Any additional help or info into this swap would be welcomed.

I'd stick with something a bit newer like an L92 or LS3 crate engine, that way the controls and acc are all the same so its pretty much a drop in. The 430hp LS3 crate has been out for a bit, early 2008 there will be two more versions avail as crate engines, a 480hp version and a 520hp version. These are of course the same basic engine in the Denalis (403 hp 6.2L L92) with upgraded parts.

I don't recall exactly but seems to me there are some issues with the LS2 in regard to acc mounting, drive by wire, intake etc? I could be mistaken though.

Just some thoughts.

as I've read it, everything transfers over. The knock sensors are on the side of the block vs on top. The cam and crank sensors are different, but the plugs are the same.

I stand corrected (I was thinking of the 58X reluctor wheel for the E38 pcm, the LS2 (06 and 07 anyway) appear have that so good stuff). I still like the idea of the L92/6 speed auto, everything will pretty much bolt/plug in as these trucks use same electrical centers as the suvs/denalis.

I was thinking about doing the L92 with the 6 speed, but some one recommended just swapping to the LS2 and I started investigating and it is a much simpler swap from what I can tell and much cheaper. The service replacment for the LS2 on the 2007 Trailblazer SS is part # 89017882, so I called my friend at the dealer and he told me he could get it for $4,500, actually this part number is the same for the GTO, Trailblazer, and the SSR. from what I can tell all the 06 and 07 LS's have the 58X wheel even my 4.8L in the 07 new body Silverado.

Agreed but the 4 speed won't last long behind that engine I wouldn't think...have to upgrade that too? Looking at the service stuff for the new trucks, the L92/6 speed will just drop in, but would have to get used as crate stuff is pricey like you said. My thinking with used is it also comes with the harness etc as well. Not much out there right now though...

Update: The LS3 is p/n 12616847, 430hp, only prices out a couple hundred more than the LS2.

I just got this from GM Parts Direct:

"89017882 6.0 liter LS2, long block, from oil pan to valve cover. without
intake manifold, and bolt on accessories. This engine would not carry a
warranty installed in your vehicle."

About the 4L60E trans going out, I had a 5.3L 2002 RCSB Silverado with a Procharger and tune for about 30K miles putting 380HP at the wheels and never had a trans problem. The 06 GTOs with the LS2 come with a 4L60E and they are around 3600LB and my 07 Silverado is around 4400LB. I don't plan on beating the truck. I use to have a 06 Trailblazer SS but had to get a pick up and I very much miss that 400HP feeling under the hood.

Couple friends have not had great luck with them but then again they do run them pretty hard, at the track with slicks etc. You are right of course about the trannies in the GTO etc but they probably had a few upgrades too. The extra weight of a pickup doesn't help but like you said if you don't abuse them should last a while. Guessing here you have a RCSB?? That would be a great ride with an LS2!!!
